Global Workshop on Parliamentary Peer-to-Peer Partnerships

INTER PARES | Parliaments in Partnership – EU Global Project to Strengthen the Capacity of Parliaments aims to strengthen representative and inclusive democracy through support to the effective functioning of parliaments in partner countries, by enhancing their legislative, oversight, representative, budgetary and administrative functions.

To celebrate the International Day of Parliamentarism, and in conjunction with the Spanish Congress, the project is organising a global workshop on Parliamentary peer-to-peer partnerships in León, Spain on Thursday 29 June 2023. The aim of the workshop is to bring together EU Member State Parliaments, INTER PARES Partner Parliaments, EU institutions, as well as other partners to explore and showcase the importance of peer-to-peer partnerships and inter-parliamentary cooperation in strengthening the capacity of Parliaments to foster democracy worldwide and address critical global challenges.

The workshop will provide a platform to the participating Parliaments and staff to engage in dialogue with peers on strengthening parliamentary democracy across the globe. About 75 participants from European Union Member State Parliaments (Secretaries General and Focal points of INTER PARES) and INTER PARES Partner Parliaments (Secretaries General and expert staff), as well as expert panellists and representatives from EU institutions, parliamentary associations, foundations and academia are expected to be in attendance for the workshop.
